How to use it

Crop before you resize

Cropping decides the composition and the ratio; resizing decides the final pixel count. Doing it in that order means you only downscale the part of the image you are actually keeping, which preserves more detail in the region that matters.

Ratios worth knowing

1:1 for avatars and most profile pictures. 4:5 is the tallest ratio Instagram shows in the feed without cropping. 16:9 for video thumbnails and hero banners. 3:2 matches most camera sensors, so it crops nothing from a DSLR photo.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce quality?
The pixels you keep are untouched. Quality only changes if you re-encode to a lossy format afterwards, which is why the output format and quality are shown explicitly.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Crop the region you want, then use the resizer to fix the exact output dimensions.
