Editorial policy

This page describes the standard every article and tool page on the site is held to. It is written down so it can be checked against the pages themselves.

Every page must answer a real question

A page is written because someone needs the answer, not because a keyword has search volume. If the honest answer to a question is "you do not need a tool for this", the page says so — the HEIC and TIFF pages both recommend routes that do not involve this site at all.

Claims are demonstrable or sourced

Technical statements fall into two groups. Statements about how the tools here behave are demonstrable in the tool itself — file sizes, dimensions and error messages are shown to you as you work. Statements about formats, browser support or standards are linked to a primary source, listed at the foot of the article.

Figures that cannot be verified are not published. There are no user counts, no "images processed" totals and no uptime percentages anywhere on the site.

No templated duplication

Each tool page is written for its own operation. Where two pages would say substantially the same thing — a "free online image compressor" article and the compressor itself — they are merged into one page and the redundant address permanently redirected to the survivor. Swapping "JPG" for "PNG" in an otherwise identical page is not treated as new content.

Capability is described accurately

  • A tool is called AI-powered only if a model is actually running.
  • Local processing is claimed only where no network request carries your file.
  • Unfinished tools are labelled unfinished, with the technical reason stated.
  • Known format failures are documented on the page rather than discovered by the user.

Review and dating

Articles carry a published date and an updated date. A page is reviewed when a tool it references changes, when browser support for a format shifts, or when a reader reports an error. The updated date only moves when the content genuinely changed — it is not refreshed to look current.

Corrections

Every article ends with a correction link. Reports go to the person who maintains the site. A factual error is corrected directly and the updated date changed; where the original statement was materially misleading, a short note is added explaining what changed. Send a correction here.

Advertising

The site currently carries no advertising. If advertising is added, it will be clearly distinguished from content, kept away from the tool interface and its controls, and never styled to resemble a download or action button.
