How to use it

  1. 1Add the GIF.
  2. 2Convert.
  3. 3Download the PNG.

What you gain

GIF is limited to 256 colours and to one fully transparent colour, which produces the hard, jagged edges typical of old web graphics. PNG supports millions of colours and a full alpha channel, so gradients and soft edges stop banding.

Converting will not add colours that the GIF never contained — but it stops further loss if you plan to edit the image.

Animation is not preserved

PNG has no animation support in the form browsers save by default, so an animated GIF becomes a single still frame — the first one.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get all frames of an animation?
Not with this tool. It exports the first frame only, and says so before you download.
